James Weinberger carded a 38 for nine holes as the Person
golf team earned its first duals victory of the season, 172-185,
over Bartlett Yancey Wednesday at the Roxboro Country Club.
Coming off a fifth-place finish in the first Piedmont Athletic
Conference tourney on Monday at Chapel Hill where they struggled
with their short game, the Rockets played better around the
greens on Wednesday.
Person competes in the seasons second conference match
on Monday (2 p.m.) at the Falls Village course in Durham.
Southern Durham is the host team in that one.
Obviously were a little more used to the greens
at the Roxboro course because we play there a lot, so hopefully
well be able to adjust to the faster greens at Falls
Village, said Rocket coach Mark Lunsford.
Brice Mitchell shot a 42, followed by a 45 from Brett Perkins
and a 47 from Zeb Barnette. Justin Christy and Trey Wright
were also among the six starters for Person on Wednesday.
Lunsford said his team gained some good experience and played
well on a soggy Roxboro course. He is hopeful that Wednesdays
effort will carry over into Mondays PAC-6 contest.
