CREEDMOOR — Trailing 3-0 after two innings, the Person junior varsity baseball team fought back and took a 4-3 edge, only to see the South Granville Vikings score the final two runs in a 5-4 defeat Wednesday at South Granville.

The loss dropped the Rockets to 0-3 on the early season.

Runs-scoring singles by Rich Whitfield and Kyle Gentry evened the game after five innings. Justin Brame scored to give the Rockets the lead in the sixth, but the Vikings tied it in their half of the inning and were able to scrape across the game-winner in the seventh.

Christian Dickens had a 2-for-2 game with an RBI triple, and Tyler Cothran had three hits for Person. Clint Holt also came on in relief and pitched three quality innings in the defeat.

The Rocket JVs had their Friday game at Webb postponed because of rain. The contest will be made up on April 9 at 5 p.m.
