SOUTH BOSTON, Va. The Person junior varsity softball
team faced a tough task in its season-opener Wednesday at
Halifax, but the Rockets were not intimidated and gave the
Comets a battle before succumbing, 10-7.
We attacked the ball well at the plate and played great
defense, said Person JV coach Donnie Murray. A
few mental mistakes put us in a bad spot, but well learn
from it and well move on.
Persons Courtney Watson had a strong opener on offense,
going 3-for-3 with a walk. Carly Earp and Kaitlyn Burton also
finished with three hits apiece.
Whitney Williams and Amber Clayton collected two hits each,
and Tracey Vaughan and Chelsea Murray made the hit column
as well.
Coach Murray and assistant coach Jack Pointer were both pleased
with the teams overall effort.
Chelsea Murray was Persons starting pitcher and she
went the distance in the loss.
The Rockets host Roxboro Community School on Monday and are
at East Chapel Hill on Tuesday.
