Roxboro police arrested two persons Friday evening in connection with a shooting incident that took place on Park Street.

Police responded to 130 Park Street Friday evening after receiving a report of gunshots being fired. Witnesses at the scene told police two black males arrived in the area in a red vehicle and began firing shots.

No injuries were reported, however, police did recover four shell casings “from what appeared to be a shotgun,” according to an incident report at the police department.

Later Friday, police arrested Cleveland D. Drumwright, 18, of 725 Chub Lake St. and David McCain, 20, of 127 Cleveland Lane in connection with the shooting.

Drumwright was charged with misdemeanor counts of illegal discharge of a weapon, going armed to the terror of the public, simple possession of marijuana and resist, delay and obstruct. Police reportedly found him to be in possession of one gram of marijuana at the time of his arrest. Drumwright was held in custody under a $12,000 secured bond.

McCain was charged with misdemeanor counts of illegal discharge of a weapon and going armed to the terror of the public. He was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond.

Drumwright and McCain are scheduled to appear in Person County District Court on Oct. 16.

Roxboro Police Lt. Todd Boycher told The Courier-Times Monday that investigators were “working with school officials to see if the incident arose from something that took place [at Person High School] and to make sure it does not carry over to the school.”

Boycher also added that he did not believe the shooting incident was gang-related.

“So far, we have not been able to come up with anything that ties this to being gang-related,” Boycher said.
