Burlington man arrested on
drug-related charges

Roxboro police arrested William Watlington, 29, of Burlington Wednesday on drug-related charges.

Watlington was reportedly a passenger in a vehicle that attempted to avoid a license checkpoint on Crestwood Drive. The vehicle was eventually stopped by police on Gordon Street. During a search of the driver and Watlington, police reportedly found Watlington to be in possession of crack cocaine, powder cocaine and marijuana. Watlington was charged with felony counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and possession of cocaine as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Watlington was jailed under a $12,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Person County District Court on Dec. 20.

Roxboro police arrested Antoine Marcel Betts, 33, of 325 Barnette Ave. Tuesday on drugs and weapon charges. Betts was charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of carrying a concealed weapon. The charges against Betts were lodged after he was stopped at a license checkpoint being conducted by Roxboro police and deputies with the Person County Sheriff’s Department at the intersection of Depot Street and South Foushee Street. Betts was reportedly found to be in possession of 70 morphine pills and 55 oxycodone pills. Police also reportedly found a handgun in the vehicle driven by Betts. Betts was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in district court on Nov. 13.
