Roxboro woman faces drug-related
charges in Virginia
- 12/14/07

Deputies with the Person County Sheriff’s Department arrested Dyvonne Marie Williams, 44, of 1336 Griles St. Apt. D Tuesday on drug-related charges.

Warrants for Williams’ arrest were issued in April of 2006 in Halifax County, Va. The incidents that led to her arrest reportedly took place in December of 2005.

The charges against Williams include felony counts of distribution of cocaine, conspiracy to distribute cocaine, distribution of marijuana and conspiracy to distribute marijuana.

Williams was held without privilege of bond pending extradition to Halifax County.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested two persons Thursday on animal cruelty related charges.

Devon Alan Ross, 32, and Tangela Dunn Ross, 31, of 744 Old Durham Rd. were each charged with a host of misdemeanor charges and released under $3,000 unsecured bonds pending a Jan. 8 appearance in Person County District Court.

The two are charged with seven counts each of cruelty to animals, six counts each of abandonment of an animal and not having rabies tags for dogs. Devon Ross was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of disposal of a dead domesticated animal.

Deputies were called to 3664 Oxford Rd. by Person County Animal Control, which had received a report of unattended dogs at the residence. Devon and Tangela Ross, who reportedly used to rent the residence, are alleged to have moved to Old Durham Road and left the animals behind with food or water. Two of the dogs reportedly were found dead at the Oxford Road location and others were found to be underweight and dehydrated. The dogs were all taken to the Person County Animal Shelter pending the outcome of the case in court.

Maurice Clay Stewart, 44, of Windsor, Md. was arrested by sheriff’s deputies Wednesday on a felony charge of possession of burglarized tools.

Warrants for Stewart’s arrest were issued in 1991.

Stewart was held without bond, pending a Tuesday appearance in district court.
