Mildred D. Davis
The funeral for Mildred Duncan Davis, 80, of 852 McGhees
Mill Rd., who died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at the Duke University
Medical Center, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008,
in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Ken McLean.
Burial will be in the Raleigh Memorial Park.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Davis was the daughter of the late
John H. and Odell Oakley Duncan. Her late husband was Robert Melvin
Davis, and her late son was Derrick Wayne Davis.
Mrs. Davis was retired from IBM.
She was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church in Raleigh and also
a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Person County.
Surviving are two sons, Haywood Bud Davis and Robert Melvin Davis,
both of Roxboro; a brother, Emory Duncan of Burlington; seven grandchildren;
and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Davis, Austin Davis, Robert Bledsoe,
Chris Bledsoe, Jesse Temares, and Scott Davis.
Visitation will be at the funeral home, beginning at noon, for
one hour before the service.

Grace G. Harris
The funeral for Grace Marie Gentry Harris, 78, formerly of 9081
Virgilina Rd., who died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at the Roxboro Nursing
Center, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, in
Olive Branch Baptist Church by Dr. Victor Blackwell. Burial will
follow in the church cemetery beside her first husband, Clyde Wilson.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Harris was the daughter of the late
Dennis F. and Nellie Humphries Gentry. She was the wife of the late
Eugene Harris.
Mrs. Harris was retired from Collins & Aikman Corp.
She was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, Felix S. Gentry, and a sister, Ninnie
Mae Russell, both of Roxboro.
Pallbearers will be Ira Jones, Linwood Welch, Phillip Welch, Lee
Holt, Donald Elliott, and Winston Elliott Sr.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, Jan. 2, at Olive
Branch Baptist Church.

Fredrick D. Slade
The funeral for Fredrick Douglas Slade, 56, of 107 Johnson St.,
who died Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at the Veterans Administration Medical
Center in Durham, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3,
in New Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Dorwin L. Howard. Burial
will be in the St. James Baptist Church cemetery in Leasburg.
Surviving are a son, Fredrick Jeffers Slade of Roxboro; his mother,
Mattie Woody, and step-father, James (Jack) Woody of the home; four
brothers, Robert, Kelvin and Michael Slade, all of Roxboro and John
Slade of Gidonsville; three sisters, Sheree Slade, Vanessa Williams
and Linda Poole, all off Roxboro; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 2, at Hester-Whitted-Daye
Funeral Service. The family will be at the home, 107 Johnson St.
Beryl B. Snipes
A graveside funeral for Beryl Barton Snipes, 92, formerly of 205
Frank Timberlake Rd., who died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007, at Roxboro
Nursing Center, was conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2008,
in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. M. David
Chambers.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Snipes was the daughter of the late
Walter Leonard and Mable Bertie Laws Barton and step-daughter of
the late Annie Dean (Big Momma) Barton. Her late husband was Eugene
Archibald Snipes.
Mrs. Snipes was retired from the former Roxboro Manufacturing Co.
She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, William Kenneth Freshwater and wife, Becky,
of Siler City; a brother, Charles A. Barton of Timberlake; a sister,
Edna Barton Garrard of Hillsborough; two grandchildren, Angela Willett
and husband, Tim, and Kristin Freshwater of Siler City; two great-grandchildren;
and a special niece, Barbara Jo Clayton of Roxboro.
Visitation and luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship
hall.
