Infant Haley A. Duckett
A graveside funeral for Haley Ann Duckett, 26 days old, of 1151 Harmony Rd., Alton, Va., who died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, at Duke University Medical Center, was conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, in the Harmony United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. John Eure.
Born Monday, Dec. 3, 2007 in South Boston, Va., she was the daughter of
Kandance Irby of Alton, Va. and Michael Duckett of South Boston, Va.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her maternal grandfather, Walter Irby of Alton; her maternal grandmother, Patricia Irby, of Alton; her paternal grandmother, Debbie Duckett of South Boston; her great-grandmothers, Brenda Rowland of Philadelphia, Pa., Ruth Irby of Roxboro and Mary Ann Duckett of Hendersonville.
George C. Dunman
EFLAND — The funeral for Preacher George Carlton Dunman, 76, of 1310 Blacksmith Rd., Efland, who died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 at his home, was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, in the Clements Funeral Home chapel in Hillsborough by the Rev. Keith Spake and Pastor Jon Faucette. Burial was in the Faith Baptist Church cemetery in Efland.
Mr. Dunman was a native of Franklin County, Va., the son of the late George Washington and Nannie Mae Dunman. His late children were Joanne Dunman, David Dunman and Diane Dunman. His late siblings were Virginia Conway and Douglas Dunman and his late great-grandchild was Ethan Lloyd.
He was employed with White's Furniture Co. for 21 years and Craftique Furniture Co. in Mebane until March 2006.
He was a former pastor of 21 years of Welcome Baptist Church and lately was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Efland.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Helen Dunnigan Dunman; two daughters, Cathy D. Fearrington and husband, Kenneth, and Brandy D. Wilson and husband, Stephen, all of Mebane; two sons, Steve Dunman and wife, Shelby, of Greenville, Tenn., and Randy Dunman and wife, Nancy, of Hillsborough; four sisters, Pauline Dunagin of Efland, Frances Owens of Roxboro, Helen Clayton of Creedmoor and Geneva Vaughn of Hurdle Mills; two brothers, Gerald Dunman of Rougemont and Gary Dunman of Roxboro; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

William C. Fox
COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. — The funeral for William Carlton (Bill) Fox, 74, of Colonial Heights, Va., who died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008 in Colonial Heights Health Care Center, was conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, in Highland United Methodist Church by the Rev. Keith Ritchie. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Chester, Va.
Born in Roxboro, Mr. Fox was the son of the late Ivey S. and Betty Perkins Fox.
He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a retired magistrate for Colonial Heights and Chesterfield County.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor T. Fox; a son, Carlton T. Fox and wife, Michelle, of Yale; a daughter, Kathy F. Arterburn of Colonial Heights; three brothers, J. Frank Fox and R. Ray Fox of Roxboro and Larry L. Fox of Chesapeake, Va.; five grandchildren, Julie F. Koontz, Carlton T. Fox Jr. (Phyllis), Katlyn Arterburn, David Arterburn and Cory Fox; and a great-granddaughter, Renee Fox.

Mary R. Hairston
ALTON, Va. — The funeral for Mary Roeshell Hairston, 55, of Mt. Carmel Rd., Alton, Va., who died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Lynchburg General Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, in New Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Harvey Bigelow. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born May 20, 1952, Ms. Hairston was a native of Pittsylvania County, the daughter of the late Minnie Hairston and James Small. Her late brother was Moses Hairston.
She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Liz Coleman of South Boston, Va.; five sisters, Caroline Pointer of South Boston, Shirleene Lawson of Pelham, Barbara Doomes, Julie Tucker and Juanita Thorpe, all of Alton; four brothers, Bonzell Hairston of Alton, Tommie Hairston of South Boston, Ben Hairston and Jerry Hairston, both of Roxboro; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, at the Jeffress Funeral Home and at other timed at the home of Barbara and Lindsey Doomes, 1149 New Bethel Road, Alton, Va.
Virginia Hunt
Virginia Hunt, 82, of Rougemont, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008.
No service is planned.
Surviving are a sister, Helen Rook; and a brother, Donald Hunt .
Vernelle Davis Johns
NATHALIE, Va. — A graveside funeral for Vernelle Davis Johns, 57, of 1187 Owens Mill Rd., Nathalie, Va., who died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at Halifax Regional Hospital, was conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, in the Mulberry Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Alfred Rimmer.
Born April 15, 1948, in Pittsylvania County, Mrs. Johns was the daughter of Madeline Waller Clay of Nathalie, who survives, and the late Swanson Roland Clay. Her late husband was Payton L. Johns, and her late son was Charles E. Davis Jr.
She was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her mother are a daughter, Betty Katherine Worley of Nathalie; two adopted daughters, Sherry Tuck of Virgilina, Va. and Melinda Terry of Nathalie; two brothers, Herbert Clay of Mt. Airy and Swanson R. Clay Jr. of Roxboro; a sister, Margie Seamster of Gretna; and three grandchildren.

Isaiah Regan
The funeral for Isaiah Regan, 80, of 2635 Cates Mill Rd., who died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Durham, was conducted with full military rites at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, in Theresa Baptist Church by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Regan was a native of Person County, the son of the late Calvin and Sallie Jane O’Briant and Joe and Rebecca Regan. His late wife of 28 years was Alice Delene Regan. His late brother was Elmo Regan, and his late sisters were Mary Regan Zimmerman, Mary Regan Long and Elizabeth Regan Duncan.
He was a retired veteran of the U.S. Army, having earned the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart while serving in Vietnam.
He was a member of Camellia Baptist Church in Prattville, Ala.
Surviving are a sister, Jackie C. Stone of Delaware; and several nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers were Weldon Bowes, Larry Clark, Wallace Clayton, Hugh Jones, Thomas Long, Carl Oakley and Charlie Stone.

Mack S. Rogers
The funeral for Mack Schmelling Rogers, 69, who died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007 at Person Memorial Hospital, was conducted at noon Friday, Jan. 4, atinill Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Frederick K. Wilson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Rogers was a member of Mill Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sisters, Daisy Paylor of Roxboro, Bettie Rogers of Baltimore, Md. and Rosa Cannon of Timberlake.
F. Clifton Rogers
The funeral for Frank Clifton Rogers, 86, of 314 Cates St., who died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 5, in Roxboro Baptist Church by Dr. DuPre Sanders and the Rev. Lewis Wall. Burial will be in the Burchwood Cemetery.
Mr. Rogers was a native of Person County, the son of the late Mary Wilkerson and William Frank Rogers.
He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during World War II.
A former postmaster of the Roxboro Post Office, Mr. Rogers was retired after 44 years of government service, during which he received many recognitions and awards.
He was a member of Roxboro Baptist Church where he served in many roles including chairman of deacons, Sunday school director, on pastoral search committees and Sunday school teacher.
He had been a member of the Roxboro Shrine Club, the Person Masonic Lodge, the Roxboro Kiwanis Club, the Piedmont Community College Advisory Board and the Person Investment Club.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Virginia Dixon Rogers; two daughters, Ginny Rogers Hicks and husband, Ray F. Hicks, of Apex and Leigh Rogers Keyser and husband, Fredrick L. Keyser III, of Raleigh; a sister Louise Rogers Childress of Greensboro; and three grandchildren, Michael Nathaniel Hicks of Apex, Leigh Franklin (Frankie) Keyser and Robert Wells Keyser, both of Raleigh.
Pallbearers will be Reid Rogers, Charles Rogers, Bill Brooks, Roy Brooks, Edward Clayton, Earl Clayton, David Richardson, Jerry Richardson and Warren Dixon. Members of the Kings Men/Class of Paul Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Jack C. Whitman
HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. — A memorial service for Jack Charles Whitman, 78, of Harpursville, N.Y., who died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 5, in the Bethel Chapel in Harpursville by Pastor Bill Fowler.
Mr. Whitman’s late wife of 47 years was Marion (Porky) Whitman. His late grandsons were Ryan and Kyle Whitman.
Surviving are two sons, Clifford Whitman and wife, Mary Ann, of Harpursville and Jack C. Whitman Jr. and wife, Vivian, of Rougemont; a daughter, Lois Poirier and husband, Fred; a brother, Stanley Whitman; a sister, Roberta Howe; 11 grandchildren, Tina and Cari and Jason Hayes, Natasha and Mike Wilmot, CJ and Chasity Whitman, Adam Whitman, Misty Fogu, Michael Fogu and Matthew Warren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He retired in 1990 from Gary’s U-Pull-It in Colesville for which he served as a car crusher.
He was a member of Bethel Chapel, a member of the Sanitaria Springs Fire Dept. and a member of the Woodsdale Fire Dept. in Roxboro.
