Mason C. Day
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. The funeral for Mason C. Day, 89, of 4046
Bill Tuck Hwy., who died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at Hopewell Health
Care, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, in First Baptist
Church by the Rev. William Pyle, the Rev. Ralph Harrell and the
Rev. Charles A. Wilbourne. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Born July 7, 1918, in Halifax County, Va., Mr. Day was the son
of the late Claude Easley and Luna Thaxton Day. His late first wife
was Gilmore C. Day. His late granddaughter was Amanda Day.
He was the retired owner/operator of Mason C. Day Inc. and was
a former owner of South Boston Speedway. The Day family also once
owned Orange County Speedway in North Carolina near Roxboro.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his second wife, Barbara Moore Day; three daughters,
Shirley D. Primiano and husband, John, of Danville, Va., Barbara
D. Bass and husband, Walter, and Sandra C. Sneed and husband, Larry,
all of South Boston; two sons, Mason C. Day Jr. and wife, Dorothy,
and Michael E. Day and wife, Connie, all of South Boston; two stepsons,
Forest Wilbourne of South Boston and Charles A. Wilbourne of Chesterfield,
Va.; two stepdaughters, Rebecca W. Allen of Coventry, England and
Stephanie W. Bailey of Prince George Co., Va.; a sister, Edith Medlin
of Raleigh; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 11
step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at
Brooks Funeral Home and at other times at the home or at the home
of Sandra and Larry Sneed, 1112 N. Main St., South Boston. Also
on Friday, Feb. 15, at the home of Barbara and Walter Bass, 7040
Philpott Rd., South Boston. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist
Church Building Fund, 815 N. Main St., South Boston, Va. 24592.
Shalita M. Featherson
The funeral for Shalita Monique Featherson, 29, of Roxboro, who
died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 from injuries sustained in an automobile
accident, was conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Mt. Olive
Baptist Church by the Rev. P.D. Medley. Burial will be in the Dunn
Family Cemetery.
Born June 28, 1978 in Caswell County, Ms. Featherson was the daughter
of Edgar Stewart Jr. of Roxboro, who survives.
She attended Caswell County schools.
Surviving in addition to her father are two children, Eyanna Nakaya
Featherson and DeCameron Taja Ford; two sisters, Shacarro Dunn of
Roxboro and Nicole Russell of Danville, Va.; and her grandmother,
Pansy Stewart of Semora.
Arrangements are by Plenty Funeral Home of Semora.
Mary P. Smith
The funeral for Mary Lou Peed Smith, 72, of 125 Somerset Dr., who
died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008 at her home, was conducted at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel
by the Rev. Brent Livingood and the Rev. Herbert Brown. A private
burial followed the service.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late
Benjamin Simon and Viola Oakley Peed.
She was the retired office manager for attorney Joe Weinberger
Jr. and the owner of Person Realty.
She was a member of Brookland United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, Dana Smith Flye and Kathryn Smith Wrenn,
both of Roxboro and William Earl (Bill) Smith II, of Charles City,
Va.; two sisters, Shirley P. Long of Roxboro and Jean Barbour of
New Bern; five grandchildren, Lauren Wrenn, Kristen Wrenn, Jennifer
Flye Harris, Michele Flye and Paul Flye, III; and four great-grandchildren,
Brandon Harris, Tyler Harris, Jace Harris and Will Flye.
Pallbearers were Paul Flye, Greg Harris, Joe Weinberger, Leon Clayton,
Arthur Snead and Doyle Peed.

Jessie W. Thomas
Jessie W. Thomas age 93 formerly of 104 Gregory Street died Tuesday,
February 12, 2008 at the Roxboro Nursing Center. She was born in
Person County to the late Walter Wesley Walker and Lula McKee Walker.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Love, Rainey, Zeb, Edgar,
and Earnie Walker and three sisters, Maggie E. Walker, Lois W. Stephens,
and Hazel W. Day.
Mrs. Thomas was a retired employee of Eaton Corporation. She was
a member of Booksdale United Methodist Church where she was a member
of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Frances T. Davis and husband
Larry and Denise T. Gilliland, all of Roxboro, and Cindy T. McAbee
of Durham; six grandchildren, Don & wife Lisa Davis, Tommy Davis,
Caleb Gilliland, Kirk & wife Virgin McAbee, Thomas McAbee, and
Chris McAbee; Six great-grandchildren, Lillie Mac Davis, Melissa
Davis, Jordann Davis, Nathan Gilliland, Marco McAbee, and Mariah
McAbee.
Brooks & White Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral
arrangements, which are incomplete at this time.

Melanie L. Throckmorton
Melanie Leann Throckmorton, 7, of 145 Acey Reaves Rd., died Saturday,
February 9, 2008. Born in Person County, Melanie was a 2nd grader
at Helena Elementary School. She loved to sing and draw. She enjoyed
making cards for people on her computer. She loved puppies and horses.
She attended Gateway Baptist Church.
Melanie is survived by her parents, Larry Michael Throckmorton,
of Sanford and Amanda Ann Culley Throckmorton and Dan Walker of
Roxboro; grandparents Bruce Eugene and Wanda M. Gill, Sheryl D.
Yarbrough, Johnny Wayne and Linda Culley, Bill and Rebecca Walker,
all of Roxboro; great-grandparents, Connie and Gretha Gill and Elizabeth
Watson, all of Roxboro; brother, Luke Carter Throckmorton, of Roxboro;
aunts and uncles, Gretchen Oakley and David Brown, Pattie and Tab
Dickerson, Greg and Kelly Murphy; cousins, Ashley Oakley, Austin
Oakley, Gregory Murphy, Zack Murphy and Will Dickerson; her beloved
teachers, Lisa Winstead and Dorothy Tingen.
Funeral services will be held 3PM Tuesday at Gateway Baptist Church
by the Rev. Ken Childres and the Rev. John Pritchard. Burial will
follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-8:30PM
Monday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Tab Dickerson, Henry Gill, Jesse Duncan, Jimmy
Hank Oakley and Will Dickerson.

Patricia P. Weber
Patricia Powley Weber, 70, of Dillsburg, Pa., died Monday, Feb.
4, 2008.
Surviving is a brother, Victor M. Powley of Roxboro.
Norman C. Yearby
DURHAM A memorial service for Norman (Buddy) Clyde Yearby,
73, of Durham, who died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008 at Hospice at the
Meadowlands, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 13, in Temple
Baptist Church by the Rev. Norman Harris.
Mr. Yearby was a native of Durham County, the son of the late Norman
and Carrie Yearby.
He was a 1954 graduate of Durham High School, graduated from Louisburg
College and attended UNC Chapel Hill for two years.
He retired from Liggett & Myers Research in 1990, after 30
years of service.
A U.S. Army veteran, he was a former member of the Army track team.
He was a member of Temple Baptist Church and the Carver Sunday
School Class.
He was also a member of the Elks Club.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are his wife, Sheila Brown Yearby; a son, Norman (Trey)
C. Yearby and wife, Angela, of Durham; a daughter, Kathy Y. Boone
and husband, Chuck, of Roxboro; a sister, Ann Y. Wilson of Durham;
and five grandchildren, Krystal Jensen, Mike Boone, Jade Yearby,
Kyle Yearby and Evan Yearby.
Visitation will immediately follow the service.
