Amy E. Andrews

GRAHAM — The funeral for Amy Frances Evans Andrews, 85, of 118 Ferris St., Haw River, who died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at the Hospice Home of Alamance, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 6, at Haw River United Methodist Church by Pastor Jeannie Neal and William Wolf. Burial will be in the Haw River Cemetery.

Mrs. Andrew was the daughter of the late Jesse James and Willie Mae Evans Young. Her late husband was Robert Lee Andrews. Her late sisters were Willie Young, Cordie Lowery, Kathleen Conner and Margie Moss.

She was a member of Haw River United Methodist Church.

She was an avid fisherwoman and loved all sports.

Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Justice and husband, Wesley, of Graham and Donna Harris and husband, Stuart, of Jamestown; three sons, Andy Andrews and wife, Laura, and Brian Andrews and wife, Wendy, all of Haw River and Kenneth Andrews and wife, Tammy, of Timberlake; two sisters, Josephine Carey and Jean Duncan, both of Roxboro; two brothers, David Evans of Jacksonville, Fla. and Ira Young of Roxboro; 10 grandchildren, Nathan Justice, Jessica Harris, Megan Andrews, Mollie Andrews, Justin Andrews, Kenny Andrews Jr. Andrea Lawson, Misty Teague, Heather Tapp, Gray Andrews; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb Justice, Cullen Justice and Gracyn Justice.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, March 5, at McClure Funeral Home in Graham.

Maggie A. Brasby

The funeral for Maggie Allen Brasby, 86, of 901 Ridge Rd., who died Thursday, Feb. 29, 2008, at the Roxboro Nursing Center, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at New Hope Baptist Church, in Timberlake, by the Rev. W.L. Richardson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are a son, Leroy Allen of Roxboro; four daughters, Josephine Blackwell and Dorothy A. Vanghan, both of Roxboro, Marion A. Black and Jackie Allen, both of Philadelphia, Pa.; a brother, Leamon Allen of Timberlake; two sisters, Earnestine A. Richmond of Roxboro and Doris A. Turrentine of Timberlake; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, March 5, at Hester, Whitted & Daye Funeral Home.

Bennie R. Duncan

TIMBERLAKE — Bennie Rufus Duncan, Sr., age 92, of 2253 Surl-Mt. Tirzah Road died Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the Rose Manor Health Care Center in Durham. He was born in Person County and was the son of the late James Samuel and Nannie Rosa Chandler Duncan. He was a World War II Army veteran and retired farmer.

Surviving are his wife Bessie Wilson Duncan, of Timberlake; three children, Sharon D. Tilley and Husband Don, of Durham; Janice D. Clayton and husband Earl, of Timberlake; Bennie R. Duncan, Jr., and wife Lisa, of Durham; four step-children, Eleanor Humphries, of Roxboro; Lectra Lunsford, of LaGrange, GA; Alvin Moore, of Roxboro; Alan Ray Moore, of Danville, VA; two brothers, James Duncan, of Rougemont; R.T. Duncan, of Roxboro; two sisters, Flora Watts of Creedmoor; Patti Overby, of Roxboro; two grandchildren, Justin Duncan and Kelsey Duncan and a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 1PM Tuesday, March 4, 2008 in the Brooks & White Funeral Chapel by the Elder David Minter. Burial will follow in the Providence Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Justin Duncan, Ray Duncan, Jesse Duncan, Danny Duncan, Dewey Duncan, Eddie Joe Vaughan, Aaron Duncan, Stevie Sanford, and Jimmy Moore. The visitation will be 6:30-7:30PM Monday at the Brooks & White Funeral Home.

Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to the Community Home Health Hospice of Durham.

Douglas J. Lyles

The funeral for Douglas James Lyles, 84, of 1580 Willow Oak Dr., who died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at his home, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, March 5, at Victory Baptist Church by Dr. Fred Lowery. Burial will be in the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Danville, Va.

Mr. Lyles was a native of Pittsylvania County, Va., the son of the late George and Ester Burnette Lyles.

He was employed with Pat Brown Lumber Yard.

He was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Gracie Mae Lyles; two sons, David Stone of Roxboro and Wayne Stone of Durham; five daughters, Dorothy S. Day of Roxboro, Ann S. Tuck of Burlington, Mary Jane Phelps, Patricia Powell, and Donna Beaver all of Roxboro; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Stone, Timothy Stone, Junior Day, Dustin Stone, Jonathan Lyles, Curtis Hammock, Shane Phelps and Roger Powell.

Vera C. Mays

The funeral for Vera Marie Clapp Mays, 86, of 5630 Hurdle Mills Rd., who died Sunday, March 2, 2008, at the Roxboro Nursing Center, was conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, in the Brooks & White Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Matt Rummage. Burial was in the Raleigh National Cemetery.

Born in Durham County, Mrs. Mays was the daughter of the late William and Burlina Hicks Capp. Her late husband was Cooper Jackson Mays. Her late daughter was Susan Kendrick, her late son was Carl Mays, and her late grandson was David Rowe.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Anderson and husband, James, of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Tracy (Rice) Pokryfky, Scott Rice, Alyssa Thurman and James C. Anderson; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joey Scott, Terry Thurman, Nathan Wall, Ron Mazur, James Dixon and D.J. Rice.

Irmalee C. Poole

SEMORA — Irmalee Collie Poole, age 82, of 15184 NC HWY 119 N, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Roxboro. She was born in Halifax, VA and was the daughter of the late Willie Lee and Mary Agnes Williamson Collie. She was widow of the late John William Poole. She was a member of the Semora United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Gordon Solomon, of Roxboro; Amy and Edwin Daniel of Yanceyville; and Marcia and Ted Cope of Timberlake; one brother, John Allen Collie, of VA; one sister Mary Agnes Barker, of Milton, three grandchildren, Heather C. High, Cara C. Waters, and Ryan S. Daniel and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Jacob Waters.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at the Lebanon Christian Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Larry Clark, Douglas Barker, Wesley, Yarbrough, Lewis Scott,

Henry Fleetwood, and Tom Blackard.

The visitation will be 7:00PM to 8:30 PM Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Faye Solomon, 603 Gordon Street, Roxboro.

Gertrude B. Wilkerson

SOUTH BOSTON, Va. — The funeral for Gertrude Buchanan Wilkerson, 94, of Alphonse Dairy Rd., South Boston, Va., who died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at her home, was conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 2, in the Brooks Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Lamar Wheeler. Burial was in the Virgilina Cemetery.

Born Oct. 8, 1913, in Dinwiddie County, Va., Mrs. Wilkerson was the daughter of the late Charlie and Hallie Shotwell Ladd. Her late husbands were Oscar Paige Buchanan and Ike Wilkerson. Her late sons were Oscar C. Buchanan and Thomas Edison Buchanan, and her late grandson was Kenneth Ray Wilson.

She was a retired sitter and former employee of Sales Knitting.

She was a member of Mountain Creek Baptist Church in Cornwall.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Lavern Humphries of Roxboro, Nell B. Thaxton and Willie B. Wilson, both of South Boston; a son, Paige T. Buchanan of South Boston; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren.

Adriel Williams

DURHAM — The funeral for Adriel Williams, 58, of Durham, who died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008 at Duke University Medical Center, was conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, in Cedar Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. James Monroe Lawson and the Rev. Jessie Timberlake. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Williams was the son of the late Ulysses and Lala Web Williams.

He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.

A 1976 graduate of North Carolina Central University, he was a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are a daughter, A. Michelle Jones and husband, Adisa, of Memphis, Tenn; a son, Derrick Williams of Durham; a step-daughter, Candace Tuck of Durham; a sister, Eurydice Williams Smith of Durham; two brothers, Robert Williams of Fayetteville and Cassius Williams of Greenville; his partner, Susan Blackmon of Durham; a grandchild; and three step-grandchildren.
