Josphine C. Blackwell
The funeral for Thelma Watson Blalock, 79, of 6809 Burlington Rd.,
who died Monday, March 17, 2008, in Person Memorial Hospital will
be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, in Clement Baptist Church
by the Rev. Lewis Wall. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Blalock was a native of Caswell County, the daughter of the
late Joe and Maggie Averette Watson. She was married to the late
Boyce Blalock. Her late siblings were Kelly Watson, Clarence Watson,
Floyd Watson, Melvin Watson, Ruth Thomas, Vera Johnson, Pauline
Patillo and Nell Brown.
She was retired from Eaton Corp., and she was a member of Clement
Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Linwood Thomas Blalock and wife, Shirley,
of Durham; a daughter Mary B. Rogers, and husband, David, of Hurdle
Mills; four grandchildren, Kimberly Rogers, Justin Rogers, Brian
Blalock, Christy B. Coghill, and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, March 19, at
the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home
of her daughter, 370 Hassell Horton Rd., Hurdle Mills.

Wilbur D. Buchanan
KINSTON A graveside funeral for Wilbur Dunn Buchanan, 83,
formerly of Person County, who died Monday, March 17, 2008 at Lenoir
Memorial Hospital in Kinston, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday,
March 21, in the Providence Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Buchanan was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Roxboro.
No visitation is scheduled.
Arrangements are by Hudson Funeral Home.
Early R. Carver
Early Roosevelt Peanut Carver age 74 of 270 Carver
Holt Road died Monday, March 17, 2008 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Person County to the late Charlie Wise Carver and
Emma Paul Carver. Peanut was husband of the late Carolyn
Ladd Carver. Mr. Carver was a member of the Theresa Baptist Church.
He was a retired tobacco farmer; he had a love for fishing, hunting,
and gardening.
Surviving are two children, Earl Ray and his wife Judy Carver of
Roxboro and Ellen Carver of Cheraw, SC; one brother, Doug Carver
and his wife Linda of Roxboro; six sisters, Eunice C. and Bud Jones,
Mary C. and Jerry Lupton, Norma C. and Pat Couture, Edna C. and
David Clayton, Susie C. and Ellis Lee all of Roxboro; Margaret C.
and Cecil Coates of Providence; Six Grandchildren: Shannon Carver
and Chris Carver; Hope and husband Josh Wallace; Douglas Brown and
Cory Brown.
Three Great Grandchildren: Kaili Grace Wallace and Berry Wallace,
and Alex Carver; and a special cousin Texie Wrenn of Roxboro.
The family will receive friends 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, March
19, 2008 at Brooks & White Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be 2PM Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Theresa
Baptist Church with the Rev. Herbert Brown officiating. Burial will
be at the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Lee, Rodney Lee, Bobby Jones, Ken Phelps,
Todd Compton, Codie Kendrick, and Chris Clayton.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Coy Bowes, Elmer Lewis, Pete Zimmerman,
and Steve Wallace

Dorothy J. Clayton
DURHAM The funeral for Dorothy Jean Clayton, 72, of 603
Broach Rd., Durham, who died Sunday, March 15, 2008, will be conducted
at 2 p.m. today, March 19, in the Freedom Baptist Church by the
Rev. Spencer Chamberlain. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Clayton was a native and lifelong resident of Durham, the
daughter of the late Soloman Frank and Lillian Cox Ray.
She was retired from Harris Teeter and was a member of Freedom
Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, William V. Clayton; two sons, Vince
Clayton Jr. of Durham and Anthony L. Clayton of Roxboro; a daughter,
Gwen Barber and husband, Billy, of Rougemont; two sisters, Pansy
Harris and Wanda Lou Pearce, both of Durham; and six grandchildren,
Amanda, Jessica, Ashley, Amber, Joey and MacKenzie.

Betty P. Dixon
The funeral for Betty Phillips Dixon, 68, of 422 Long Ave., who
died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 in the Duke University Medical Center,
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 21, in North Roxboro Baptist
Church by the Rev. Ben Durand. Burial will be in the Person Memorial
Cemetery.
Mrs. Dixon was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late
Harvey Phillips and Viola Holt Phillips.
She was retired from Alsco, after 38 years of service.
She was a member of North Roxboro Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband; Robert Bobby Dixon; a daughter, Donna
D. Martin and husband, Phil, of Greensboro; a son, Michael Dixon
of Roxboro; a brother, Harvey Phillips Jr. of Roxboro; a sister,
Peggy P. Sink of Roxboro; and three grandchildren, Tyler Dixon,
Ethan Dixon and Heather Martin.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20,
at North Roxboro Baptist Church and other times at the home.

Kimberly M. Hartwell
NEBO Kimberly McKinney Hartwell, age 49, of Nebo, passed
away on Friday, March 14, 2008 at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Kim was born in Roxboro on November 28, 1958 to John W. McKinney,
Sr. of Roxboro and the late LaRue Burns McKinney. She was employed
for over 29 years with I.A.C., formerly Collins & Aikman, in
Old Fort where her father was formerly the plant manager. A former
member of the McDowell County Saddle Club, Kim had a love for many
different outdoor activities. She was a loving wife, daughter and
sister and will be sorely missed by her loving family, extended
family and friends.
In addition to her father, she leaves behind her loving husband
of 14 years, Russell B. Hartwell; a sister, Kathy LaRue McKinney
of Durham; a brother, John W. Wes McKinney, Jr. of Chapel
Hill; a sister, Connie McKinney Cox of Durham; and a number of nieces
and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from
9:00 10:00 a.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion. The
visitation will be followed by a private family memorial service
officiated by Rev. Brent Livingood and Kims uncle, Rev. Dr.
Julian M. Aldridge. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to
encourage those desiring to make a memorial contribution to consider

James T. Whitfield
The funeral for James Thomas Whitfield, 76, of 385 Welch Whitfield
Rd., Timberlake, who died Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Veterans
Administration Hospital in Durham, was conducted at 11 a.m. Monday,
March 17, in Mt. Harmony Baptist Church by Pastor Barry Chambers,
Pastor Sam Patterson and Bobby Hicks. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Born in Person County, Mr. Whitfield was the son of the late Thomas
Floyd and Ina Brooks Whitfield. His late sister was Dorothy Dickey,
and his late brothers were C. Alex Whitfield and John H. Whitfield.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict.
He was a retired farmer and carpenter.
He was a member of Mt. Harmony Baptist Church and the Business
Mens Fellowship of the USA and attended Micaiah Christian
Mission.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Allen Whitfield; four children,
Rhonda W. Dixon of Roxboro, Patricia W. Jordan and husband, Bob,
of Durham, Jimmie Whitfield and wife, Regina, of Timberlake and
Kevin Whitfield and wife, Shelbie, of Timberlake; two sisters, Joyce
W. Robertson of Roxboro and Cornelia W. Molinaro of Cary; 11 grandchildren;
and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Charles Whitfield, Bruce Whitfield, Keith Whitfield,
Mark Molinaro, Ronald Norris, Terry Allen, Shannon Allen and John
Allen.
Donald Dickey, Darrell Whitfield, Douglas Harrison, Dale Norris,
Brian Adcock, Linwood Welch, Hal Oakley, Bobby Hicks, Milton Smith
and Melvin Palmer were honorary pallbearers.
