Ava Marie B. West
The funeral for Ava Marie Bowes West, 72, of 119 Historic Village
Dr., who died Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at Person Memorial Hospital,
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 27, in the Strickland
Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Herbert Brown. Burial will be in
the West cemetery.
Mrs. West was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late
Ed Luther and Sally Briggs Bowes. Her late husband was Joe B. West.
Her late sisters were Henrietta Tuck, Geraline Bowes and Betty Jean
Walker, and her late brothers were Monroe, Clyde and Jerry Bowes.
She was a homemaker and was a Baptist.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet Carver and husband, George,
and Deborah W. Wheeler, all of Roxboro; a son Larry West and wife,
Brenda, of Roxboro; three sisters, Shirley Reaves, Peggy Clower
and Nellie Bowes, all of Roxboro; two brothers, Paul Bowes and Bruce
Bowes, both of Roxboro; five grandchildren, Tommy Shotwell, Angela
Denny, Ricky Lee Roach, Christy Gravitt and Allison Long; and six
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be J.W. Bowling, Jason Braddy, Josh Dickie, Michael
Dickie, Bruce Holbrook, Junior Holbrook and Chris Ladd.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, March 26, at the
funeral home and at other times at the home.
Nicole L. Rogers
DURHAM The funeral for Nicole (Bertha) Lavete Rogers, 35,
of Durham, who died Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Durham Ridge Assisted
Living, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, in the Holloway
Funeral Home chapel in Durham.
She attended Durham public schools.
Mrs. Rogers was born July 22, 1973, the daughter of Sandra Rogers
of Durham, who survives, and the late Robert Rogers. Her late grandparents
were Jessie D. and Robert Rogers and Geraldine Rogers.
Surviving in addition to her mother are two sons, Desmond Reshayn
Bynum and Dyequan Malik Bynum, both of Durham; her step-father,
Michael Satterfield of Roxboro; her foster parents, Thomas and Evelyn
Torain; three foster brothers, Jeffrey, Kevin and Jabard Torain,
all of Durham; and two foster sisters, Marla Avery of Smithfield
and Kathy Holloway of Durham.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at
the funeral home.
