Mary M. Allen
The funeral for Mary M. Allen, 81, of 325 Hill St., who died Wednesday,
April 9, 2008, at her home, will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April
12, in Mt. Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. Wallace Allen and the
Rev. Johnny Wilson. Burial will be in the Peace Memorial Cemetery.
Surviving are five sons, Morris Allen and wife, Shirley, Dallas
Allen and wife, Barbara, and the Rev. Wallace Allen and wife, Josephine,
all of Roxboro, Jewel Allen of Greensboro and James Allen of Wilmington,
Del.; four daughters, Shirley Roberts, Mary Winstead and husband,
Billy, and Evelyn Moore and husband, Tony, all of Roxboro, and Alice
Toler and husband, Joseph, of Oxford; a sister, Lucille Dixon of
Los Angeles, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Gracie W. Cole
The funeral for Gracie Walker Cole, 89, of 926 Thaxton Rd., who
died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital, will
be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13, in the Brooks & White
Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Ross Thompson and Pastor Randy Stoner.
Burial will be in the Person Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Cole was a native of Person County, the daughter of the late
Charlie and Della Cox Walker. Her late husband was James W. Cole.
Her late brothers were Melvin, Irvin and James Merritt Walker, and
her late sisters were Betty Blue Walker, Alice Gillis and Ruby OBriant.
She was a member of Cavel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, James Cole and wife, Carolyn, of Semora,
Norman Cole and wife, Liz, Ann Whitlow and husband, Jimmy, Delores
Hicks and husband, Bobby, W. Pete Cole and wife, Diane, Larry Cole
and wife, Kathy, Tony Cole and wife, Phyllis, and Mark Cole, all
of Roxboro; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Todd Whitlow, Jamie Whitlow, Lynn Whitlow,
Jeffery Whitlow, Chris Hicks, Craig Hicks, Brian Cole, Adam Cole
and Kevin Cole.
Edward Cole and Kirk Whitlow will be honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, April 12,
at the funeral home and other times at the home.

John M. Garrard
The funeral for John Manning Garrard, 56 of 252 Winding Trail Dr.,
who died Wednesday, April 9, 2008, at his home, will be conducted
at 11 a.m. today, April 12, in Long Memorial United Methodist Church
by the Rev. T.R. Miller. Burial with military rites will be in the
Mt. Lebanon Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Durham.
Mr. Garrard was the son of Cornelia Anderson Garrard of Rougemont,
who survives, and the late Walter Edward Garrard.
A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, he was retired from the
Air Force after 20 years of service.
He was employed as a commercial pilot with ATA.
He attended Long Memorial United Methodist Church where he sang
in the choir and was very active with the Long Memorial United Methodist
Boy Scout Troop 249.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife Ann Cole Garrard;
two children, Elizabeth C. Garrard and John W. Garrard, both of
the home; a brother, Walter Edward Garrard Jr. of Elizabeth, Colo.;
three sisters, Rebecca G. Smith of Dixon, Tenn., his twin sister,
Sarah G. Holmberg of Ridgeway, S.C., and Ginger G. Nelson of Louisburg,
W. Va.

Frankie C. Garrett
Frankie Geraldine Carroll Garrett, 72, of 688 Bowen Rd., Rougemont,
died Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at Durham Regional Hospital.
Born in Chattanooga, Tenn., Mrs. Garrett was the daughter of the
late Frank and Delphia Green Carroll.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are her children, Delphia Parker of Durham, Brenda Marino
of Rougemont, Linda Williams of Jacksonville and Paul Morin of Yanceyville;
a sister, Grace (Sam) Green, of Red Oak, Va.; numerous grandchildren;
and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. today, April 12, at Brooks
& White Funeral Home.

Johnny C. Paylor
REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio A memorial service for Johnny C. Paylor,
53, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, who died Saturday, April 5, 2008, will
be conducted at 1 p.m. today, April 12, in Mill Hill Baptist Church
by the Rev. Frederick Wilson and the Rev. Ben Clay.
Mr. Paylor was the son of the late Charlie Floyd and Dora Talley
Paylor.
He was a 1973 graduate of Person Senior High School.
He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran,with 23 years of service.
He was a member of Hyco Zion Baptist Church.
Surviving are two children, Sting Paylor and Octavia Paylor, both
of Reynoldsburg; seven sisters, Glossie Paylor and Pearl Carver,
both of Baltimore, Md., Joanne Lee of Coatesville, Pa., Pansy Fowler
of Southfield, Mich., Dorothy Tomasovich of Chester Springs, Pa.,
May Paylor of Wilmington, Del. and Stella P. Nelson of Roxboro;
and two brothers, Jewel Paylor of Baltimore and Walter Paylor of
Detroit, Mich.
Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service
and at other times at the home of Roger and Stella Nelson, 65 Nelson
Loop Rd., Roxboro.

Robert F. Smith
A graveside funeral for Robert Franklin Smith, 86, of 4230 North
Roxboro Rd., who died Thursday, April 10, 2008, in the Rose Manor
Health Care Center, will be held conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April
14, in the Burchwood Cemetery.
Born in Person County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Richard
Franklin and Fannie Broach Smith. His late wife was Thelma Smith.
His late brother was Thomas Youel Smith, and his late sisters were
Lottie Frederick and Victoria Davis.
He was a Baptist.
Surviving are four sisters, Hulda Day, Daisy Howard, Doris Newell,
all of Roxboro and Odell Slaton, of Palm Bay, Fla., 15 nieces and
nephews; and 31 great-nieces and nephews.

Dr. Morganton, NC 28655.
