Emma N. Carmichael
The funeral for Emma Louise Nelson Carmichael, 83, of 1405 Longhurst
St., who died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Roxboro Nursing Center,
was conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, in the Brooks and White
Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. John Hailey and Pastor John Howle.
Burial was in the Virgilina Cemetery.
Mrs. Carmichael was a native of Person County, the daughter of
the late Henry Daniel and Callie Wilson Nelson.
She was a member of the Longhurst United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Walter Wyatt Carmichael;
three children, Wilbert Wyatt Carmichael and wife, Cathy, Shelby
Carmichael Smith and husband, R.B. and Roger Carmichael and wife,
Libby, all of Roxboro; two sisters, Catherine Whitlow of Roxboro
and Ida Rea Walker of Hopewell, Va., two half sisters, Frances Wheeler
and Fannie Mae Walker, both of Roxboro; a half brother, Howard Nelson
of Roxboro; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jay Carmichael, Wendall Carmichael, Clay Carmichael,
Stephen Smith, Larry Coleman and Craig Hicks.

Mary H. Chambers
The funeral for Mary Hargis Chambers, 80, of 7100 Burlington Rd.,
Hurdle Mills, who died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at her home, will
be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 30, in the Chambers Family Cemetery
on Robert Whitfield Road, Hurdle Mills, by the Rev. Buddy Hall.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Chambers was the daughter of the late
Arthur and Lonnie Pulliam Hargis. Her late husband was Charlie W.
Chambers.
She was retired after 61 years as a partner in C.W. Chambers Store
and Footwear Plus.
She attended Triple Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are four sons, C.W. Chambers Jr. and Linwood Ray Chambers,
both of Hurdle Mills, James Chambers of Roxboro and Michael Chambers
of Hurdle Mills; a daughter, Susan C. Burnett of Roxboro; two brothers,
Leonard Hargis and Ray Hargis, both of Roxboro; a sister, Ollie
Mae Wilson of Roxboro; a half-brother, Bobo Hargis of Burlington;
11 grandchildren, Wendy Chambers, Dawn Chambers, Charlie W. Chambers
III, Steven Chambers, Anna Kirby, Scott Chambers, Christy King,
Brant Burnett, Grey Burnett, Elizabeth Chambers and William Chambers;
and two step-great-grandchildren, Jessica Smith and Joshua Holland.
Pallbearers will be Charlie W. Chambers III, Steven Chambers, Scott
Chambers, Brant Burnett, Grey Burnett, Wells King and Adam Kirby.

Claudie P. Davis
GREENSBORO Claudie Lea Pointer Davis, of Roxboro and Greensboro,
died on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
She was 91.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April
30, at Connally United Methodist Church, near Milton in Caswell
County, N.C.
She was born to Herbert A. Pointer and Claude T. Pointer on March
25, 1917. Her youngest son, Guy P. Davis, preceded her in death
in 1997.
She is survived by her son, Herbert O. Davis, of Greensboro, daughter-in-law
Judith G. Davis of Richmond, grandchildren, Herbert O. Davis, junior
of Greensboro, Guy P. Davis and wife, Risa, of Arnold, Md., Ann
D. Legette and husband, Wade, of Greensboro, Neal G. Davis of Chesapeake,
Va., Claudia D. Tetterton and husband, Sydnor, of Richmond, and
Paul B. Davis and wife, Meghan, of Greensboro. She is also survived
by six great grandchildren, nieces Chris S. Richardson of Roxboro
and Anne A. Oakley of High Point, and nephew William W. Allgood
of Chapel Hill.
The family will receive friends at Brooks and White Funeral Home,
907 Durham Road, in Roxboro from 6:00 until 7:30 on Tuesday, April
29.

William H. Elliott
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. The funeral for William Henry Elliott,
52, of 3172 Bill Tuck Hwy., South Boston, Va., who died Sunday,
April 27, 2008 in Halifax County, Va., will be conducted at 3 p.m.
today, April 30, in Grace Baptist Church by the Rev. Jack Stewart.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Born March 12, 1956, in Halifax County, Va., Mr. Elliott was the
son of John K. Elliott of Halifax and Gladys Phillips Elliott of
South Boston, who survive.
He was a foreman with Climate Control Inc. and was a member of
Grace Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Debra W. Elliott;
two sons, William Justin Elliott and Jared Wayne Elliott, both of
South Boston; a daughter, Jenna Nicole Elliott of South Boston;
a stepson, Brian Epps and wife, Christi, of South Boston; three
sisters, Gladys Murray of Roxboro, Patsy Brewer and Donna Talley,
both of Oxford; and two brothers, Charles Danny Oakley of Scottsburg,
Va. and John Randolph Elliott of South Boston.

James D. Epps Jr.
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. The funeral for James David (Jimmy) Epps
Jr., 94, of 3060 Dan River Church Rd., South Boston, Va., who died
Sunday, April 27, 2008, at his home, will be conducted at 3 p.m.
today, April 30, in the Dan River Baptist Church by the Rev. Rod
Chancy and the Rev. Doug Gibson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Epps was born Nov. 8, 1913 in Halifax County, Va., the son
of the late James David and Melissa New Epps.
He was a retired sales manager with Blue Ribbon Creamery and was
a member of the Dan River Baptist Church.
He was an avid golfer and was a member and 1995 inductee into the
South Boston-Halifax County Sports Hall of Fame.
Surviving are his wife, Ophelia Lenora Wilmouth Epps; two daughters,
Norma B. Chaney and husband, Bob, of South Boston and Scottie B.
Felton of Halifax; a son James David Epps III and wife, Mary Jane,
of Halifax; a stepson, Henry Cole and wife, Clevie, of Scottsburg,
Va.; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren,
and six step-great grandchildren

Mangum M. Martin
The funeral for Mangum Madison Martin, 79, of Glen Allen, Va.,
who died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday,
May 1, in Calvary Baptist Church in Person County. Burial will be
in the Mayo Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Martin was retired from employment with Henrico County, Va.,
He was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife Hattie Martin; two sons,Steve Martin and
wife, Lynne, and Gil Martin and wife, Denise; a daughter, Vickie
Blunt and husband, Tom; two brothers; five sisters; 10 grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be in the Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall
at the conclusion of the service.

Dr. Jimmie V. Morris
OXFORD The funeral for Dr. Jimmie V. Morris, 82, of 4243
Cannady Mill Rd., Oxford, who died Friday, April 25, 2008, at UNC
Hospitals, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in Penn
Avenue Baptist Church by the Rev. Willie S. Darby. Burial will be
in Meadowview Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, April 30, at Wright
Funeral Home.
Virginia B. Tew
KINSTON A memorial service for Virginia Mae Brown Tew, 77,
of Doctors Drive, Kinston, who died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at
UNC Hospitals, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in St.
Marks Episcopal Church in Roxboro.
She was a bookkeeper with Harveys in Kinston.
Mrs. Tew was the daughter of the late Nellie Littleton Brown Smith.
Her late son was Douglas Michael Tew, and her late brother was George
Elliott Brown Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Marcia Tew Byrd of Durham and Judy
Tew Vickers of Roxboro; and a sister, Frances Brown Williams of
Arkansas.
