Clem Clay
The funeral for Clem Clay, 76, of 414 Woodsdale Rd., who died Monday,
April 28, 2008, at the Treyburn Rehabilitation Center following
an extended illness, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, May 3, in
Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church by the Rev. Ben Clay and the Rev. Patrick
Clay. Burial will be in the Clay Family Cemetery.
Mr. Clay was a retired U.S. Navy veteran, having served more than
20 years.
In 1979, he founded Clay's Flower Shop and operated it for 29 years.
Surviving are his wife, Blanche B. Clay; two daughters, Clementine
Talley of Durham and Amethia Clay of Raleigh; a son, Gregory Clay
of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Rossie Weaver of Ahoskie, Winifred
Holman of Virgilina, Va. and Virginia Williams of Auburn, Ala.;
a brother, Amos Godfrey Clay of Toledo, Ohio; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Cunningham and Nelson Funeral Home.
George H. Lattie Jr.
The funeral for George H. Lattie Jr., 65, of 501 Jones St., who
died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Person Memorial Hospital following
a brief illness, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, May 5, in New
Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Dorwin L. Howard. Burial will
be in the Peace Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Lattie was a native of Person County.
He was a member of New Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Surviving are five aunts, Beulah Rogers, Bernice Smith and Dennia
Bolton, all of Roxboro, Nannie Reed of Chester, Pa. and Iola Lattie
of Hillsborough; and an uncle, James Bolton of Roxboro.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Cunningham
& Nelson Funeral Home.
Mangum M. Martin
GLEN ALLEN, Va. The funeral for Mangum Madison Martin, 79,
of Glen Allen, Va. who died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, was conducted
at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, in Calvary Baptist Church in Roxboro.
Surviving are his wife Hattie Martin; two sons Steve Martin and
wife, Lynne, and Gil Martin and wife, Denise; a daughter, Vickie
Blunt and husband, Tom; two brothers, Lindsey Dan Martin and John
F. Martin, both of Roxboro; five sisters, Lula Stewart, Beryl Hall,
Bessie Oakes and Nancy Martin, all of Roxboro, Rosa Wimmer of Ruther
Glen, Va. and Sandra Sanford, of Roxboro; 10 grandchildren, and
five great-grandchildren.
He was retired from Henrico County and was a member of Goodwill
Baptist Church.

Sheila D. Nixon
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. The funeral for Sheila D. Nixon, 42, of
2213 Sandy Beach Rd., South Boston, Va., who died Wednesday, April
30, 2008, at Halifax Regional Hospital following an extended illness,
will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in Allen Chapel A.M.E.
Church by the Rev. Milton Battle and the Rev. Ben Clay. Burial will
be in the church cemetery.
Ms. Nixon was the daughter of Paige Humphrey Swan of Halifax, Va.
and Howard Nixon of Salinas, Calif., who survive.
Surviving in addition to her parents are her step-father, Dr. Charles
W. Swan of Halifax, Va.; and her maternal grandfather, Cornell Humphrey
of South Boston.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. today, May 3, at Cunningham
& Nelson Funeral Home in Roxboro.
Ruby J. Rimmer
The funeral for Ruby Jones Rimmer, 87, of 434 Long Ave., who died
Wednesday, April 30, 2008, was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 2,
in Berrys Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Craig Willingham,
Dr. DuPre Sanders and the Rev. Alfred Snipes. Burial was in the
church cemetery.
Born in Person County, Mrs. Rimmer was the daughter of the late
Jule and Lizzy Wright Jones. Her late husband was Willard Kerr Rimmer.
She was the mother of the late Donald Ray Rimmer and infant twins.
Her late sister was Curtis Jones.
She was retired from Peebles.
An active member of Berrys Grove Baptist Church, she taught
Sunday school and Bible school and was a member of the Womens
Missionary Union.
She was also a member of the Christian Womens Club.
Surviving are four daughters, Jean Featherston and husband, Dan,
of Roxboro, Billie Anderson and husband, Phil, of Salt Lake City,
Utah, Victoria Cates of Durham and Jessica Lee and husband, Garry,
of Garner; three brothers, Linwood Jones, Robert Jones and Edward
Jones, all of Roxboro; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Robby Jones, Mike Jones, Lin Jones, Robbie Harris,
Hassell Blaylock and Eric Rimmer.
Bobby Dixon, Larry Rimmer, Mike Rimmer, Ronnie Epps, Jody Harris,
Jerry Jobe and members of the Senior Adult Sunday School class were
honorary pallbearers.
