Ivory T. Blackwell

The funeral for Ivory Thomas (Red) Blackwell, 66, of 1290 Old Durham Rd., who died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at the Duke Hospice Inpatient Care Facility in Hillsborough, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 19, in Shady Hill Missionary Baptist Church by Dr. James A. Richmond. Burial will be in the Blackwell Family Cemetery.

Mr. Blackwell was the son of Celia T. Blackwell of Roxboro, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his mother are four sons, Frankie Warren and wife, Claudette, and Dennis Blackwell, both of Roxboro, Michael Blackwell of Bunn and Darren Blackwell and wife, Rhonda, of Hurdle Mills; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Hester, Whitted & Daye Funeral Home.

Doyle H. Cates

DURHAM — The funeral for Doyle Hildred Cates, 73, of Hillsborough, who died Sunday, Dec.16, 2007, will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 19, in the Hudson Funeral Home chapel by Pastor Brad Williams. Burial, with military honors, will be in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Cates was a native of Durham, the son of the late Banks Hildred and Elizabeth Perry Cates.

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He owned and operated the L&D Grill for 35 years.

His late brother was Donnie Earl Cates, his late sister was Patsy Marie Powell, and his late great-granddaughter was Taylor Elizabeth McFalls

Surviving are his wife, Louise Cates; two sons, Frankie Lee Cates and Doyle Wayne Cates; four daughters, Pam Reese, Marie Huskett, Sharon Coats of Timberlake and Angela Ward; a brother, Claiborne L. Cates; two sisters, Shirley Ann Cates and Betty June Cates; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Josephine Comfort

Josephine Comfort, 61, of John Brewer Road, Leasburg, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at Durham Regional Hospital.

She was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a student at Piedmont Community College.

She was a Baha’i.

Surviving are two daughters and a sister.

Earl Hackney

OXFORD - Earl Hackney, 59, of Oxford, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007. No services are planned.

Mr. Hackney was the son of Mary Thompson Fish of Hurdle Mills, who survives.

He was a police officer with the Oxford Police Department.

Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Gina Hallado Hackney; a daughter, Brenna Hackney; and a sister, Barbara Moore.

James A. Harris

DANVILLE, Va. — The funeral for James (Buddy) Andrew Harris, 62, of 140 Benefield St., Danville, Va., who died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2007 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, in Kentuck Baptist Church by Pastor Jessie J. Fitz. Burial will be in the Highland Burial Park.

Born June 25, 1945 in Person County, Mr. Harris was the son of the late Joe Clitus and Maggie Jan Burton Harris.

Prior to his retirement on disability, he was employed as a chauffeur for Dimon International.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Waddell Harris; a step-son, Rodney Bradley of Martinsville, Va.; and a sister, JoAnn H. Wright of Roxboro.

Visitation will be at the home and at the home of his sister, JoAnn Wright, 1359 Burlington Rd., Roxboro.

Arrangements are by Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home.

Alice F. Klinder

The funeral and second visitation for Alice Florence Klinker, 97, of Roxboro, who died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, will be conducted in the Reyers Funeral Home in Grand Rapids, Mich., by the Rev. Thomas Rohrer. Burial will be in the Rosedale Memorial Gardens in Grand Rapids.

Mrs. Klinder’s late husband of 67 years was Lester Jerome Klinker. Her late son was Philip Klinker.

She was a homemaker and dedicated herself to her family and children. She was a Baptist but attended Long Memorial United Methodist Church after moving to North Carolina.

Surviving are a daughter, Sheryl MacIntosh and husband, Kerry; three grandchildren, David Klinker, Kelly MacIntosh and Kevin MacIntosh; a daughter-in-law, Charlene Klinker; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, Dec.19, 2007 at Brooks & White Funeral Home with scripture reading by the Rev. T. R. Miller at 8:15 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetic Association, 2 Hannover Sq., Suite 1650, 434 Fayetteville St. Mall, Raleigh, NC 27601.

Thomas W. Long

The funeral for Thomas (Tom) Wayne Long, 66, of 150 Old Allensville Rd., who died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007 at Durham Regional Hospital, will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, Dec. 19, in McGhee's Mill Baptist Church by the Rev. Frankie Reaves. Burial will be in the Theresa Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Long was a native of Person County, the son of the late Alfred Washington and Sarah Arrington Long. His late brothers were Ernest (Cotton) and Algie Long and his late sister was Dorothy Mae Harris.

He was a retired farmer and a member of McGhee's Mill Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Donna Clayton Long; two sons, Tommy Wayne Long and wife, April, and Rick Long and wife Lori, all of Roxboro; a daughter, Priscilla Long of the home; two brothers, Albert Long of Roxboro and Bobby (Bob) Long of Hurdle Mills; and three sisters, Mary Lois Jackson of Burlington, Mildred Jordan of Graham and Evie Sue Bryant of Roxboro; four grandchildren, Little Rick, Tiffany, Christopher and Ashley Long; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Blalock, Dale Carver, Bo Long, Christopher Long, Ronnie Long and William Long.

Darrell Long, Jimmy Long, Little Bo Long, Neal Long, Robbie Long and W.A. Long will be honorary pallbearers.

Arrangements are by Strickland Funeral Home.

Elizabeth S. Walker

YANCEYVILLE — Elizabeth “Libba” Satterfield Walker 71, of 435 Wall Street died at her residence, Monday December 17, 2007 following a period of declining health.

She was born in Caswell County March 6, 1936, to John L. Satterfield, Jr. and Mildred Lough Satterfield. A member of Beulah Baptist church, she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was educated in Caswell County Schools, and retired from the Caswell County School System after many years of faithful service. She loved to decorate for Christmas and other events, and loved to help others with their decorations.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday 2 P.M. at Harrelson Funeral Service Chapel, conducted by Rev. Gerald Thomas, Bishops Vernon Massengill and Lindsey Page.

Interment will be in Yanceyville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors are husband Robert “Rob” Walker of the home, three daughters, Julie Walker Thompson and husband Steve, Karen Walker Daniel and husband Bill, Gina Walker Lunsford and husband Brian, grandchildren Claire E. Daniel, Kathryn A. Daniel, Grace F. Daniel, Carson W. Lunsford, Hannah E. Lunsford, and Gwynn W. Thompson, brothers Robert L. “Bobby” Satterfield, Jack Satterfield and Gordon Satterfield, one sister Mary Kiser Mise.

She was predeceased by her parents.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alamance-Caswell Hospice, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, N.C. 27215.

Harrelson Funeral Service is assisting the Walker Family with arrangements.
